For over 13 years

We have been on a mission to bring opportunities back home.

We started with a simple question that sparked our journey: why do people have to leave their hometowns to find work in the city? We believed there had to be another way  for people to live well where they belong.

That belief became Local Alike, a social enterprise that uses travel as a tool for change. By working with communities across Thailand, we turn local wisdom and ways of life into meaningful journeys that create real impact for people, culture, and the planet.

Where it all started

Our story began in a small rural northern Akha village called “Hloyo”

From that starting point, Local Alike became Thailand’s pioneering Community-Based Tourism (CBT) social enterprise. Unlike conventional tourism, we don’t just bring visitors to communities, we build those communities to be ready. We co-create experiences with local people, ensuring every activity reflects their identity and benefits them directly. Over time, our role has grown. From developer to promoter, consultant, and investor. We are creating a complete ecosystem that helps communities thrive sustainably.

People Centric Human Capital Development

Focusing on the development of internal personnel is one of Local Alike’s top priorities, as human resources are the key factor in driving all activities of the company, and relationships with partners and communities, to ensure that sustainability is truly achieved. This is done through clear operational practices that take sustainability into account.

Building the human capital within partner communities is an essential starting point to laying a strong foundation for transforming communities. Enhancing knowledge and understanding of sustainability and fostering social and environmental awareness are critical to creating internal momentum within the community. Additionally, Local Alike's customers and networks need to understand human development to lead to sustainability in the community-based tourism industry.

Sustainable Business Operations

Local Alike is highly sensitive to the impacts of our operations, starting with a management team that takes society and the environment into account, including, but not limited to, sensitivity to our overall green footprint, including selection of suppliers that also value sustainability. This ethos ensure we amplify sustainable business practices in all dimensions. Nurturing community entrepreneurs to operate sustainably is essential and goes hand-in-hand with the Local Alike's own sustainable business operations. Social and environmental impacts from community-based tourism should have clear operational guidelines in place to promote sustainability in the tourism business.

Landscape Improvement

Landscape improvement for tourism is another area that can create sustainability in the tourism industry by improving landscapes in an environmentally responsible way. This includes promoting ecological restoration through landscape improvements, using local plants that are suitable for the environment, restoring damaged nature by planting compensatory greenery, encouraging the use of plants that provide food or habitats for wildlife, or incorporating technology to enhance the effectiveness of sustainable landscape improvements.

Technology

Using technology to enhance work efficiency is a tool that supports the company's operations, making it easier to achieve sustainability objectives and effectively analyze the impact of Local Alike’s business activities. For example, using applications to analyze the carbon footprint of potential tourism programs and employing technology to promote the production of more environmentally friendly products.

Technology is also used as a communication channel to raise awareness of sustainability, serving as a promotional tool to help stakeholders in the tourism industry understand the importance of sustainable business practices. Additionally, it helps promote sustainable tourism and regenerative tourism, enabling greater access to a wider group of tourists.

Society and Environment

Every activity carried out by Local Alike must always consider social and environmental impacts. We work closely with communities to shape activities to avoid negative impacts on society, avoiding division, promoting systematic cooperation, and respecting the way of life, customs, and traditions in the area, including spiritual beliefs of local communities which may not be widely known to visitors.

Furthermore, activities that may impact the environment are analyzed via an environmental impact assessment, as local and national regulations guide, and Local Alike may go further to analyze how programming might upgrade the environment through the organizations cooperation with communities. Environmental conservation, promotion, and restoration activities are prioritized from the planning stages of every Local Alike operation to ensure a positive impact on the environment and harmonization with communities.
